Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWENDOLINE ELLEN ANDERSON August 25, 1905 - April 26, 2003 Gwen Anderson (Mounsdon) died peacefully, in her own apartment at Lions Place, on April 26, 2003, at the age of 97, with family present. Gwen will missed by her son James and daughter Kathleen Henderson (Drew) three grandchildren, Bruce Samson (Sylvia), Ian Samson (Lynne) and Hillary Samson; four adoring great-grandchildren, Page, Devon, Evan and Emma Samson; step-grandchildren, Lorraine and Andrew Henderson. She will also be remembered by nieces and nephews, Muriel Bates and Bill Anderson, Mavis, Raymond and Douglas Miles and Larry Burns. Gwen was devoted to her family and will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, generosity and her determined spirit. Her composure and good humour in times of struggle were an inspiration to her family. Gwen was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, England on August 25, 1905. Her parents, Alfred and Clara Mounsdon immigrated to Winnipeg in 1907. Gwen was predeceased by three brothers, Gilbert, Christopher, Reginald and two sisters, Irene (Miles) and Bertha (Burns). Gwen attended Success Commercial College and then had a successful career at Metropolitan Life from 1922 - 1932 as a bookkeeper/supervisor. Gwen married Roderick Anderson in 1932. She and Rod enjoyed many summers sharing the cottage life at Gull Lake and spending time on the gardens. Gwen was very active in the United Church and her community club. Gwen was widowed in 1958 and managed the family business until 1961. In the 1960s and 1970s she enjoyed many travels, especially to England and Hawaii, and her visits to family in California and Vancouver. Moving to Lions Place in 1983, Gwen was one of the original residents and volunteers and enjoyed her friends and the many activities there. The family thanks her friends and the staff of Lions Place, the home care assistants, nurses and Dr. K. Pickard who made it possible for Gwen to enjoy her life to the last day in her own home. A memorial service celebrating Gwens life will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lions Place Auditorium, 610 Portage Ave. with Mrs. Joyce Christie officiating.
